About GEF-Zimbabwe

Overview

Zimbabwe participates actively in the Global Environment Facility (GEF), implementing projects that address biodiversity conservation, climate change mitigation, and land restoration.

The country’s GEF portfolio includes national initiatives worth over US$36 million and regional/global projects exceeding US$400 million, reflecting its commitment to sustainable development. Through the Small Grants Programme, launched in 1994, more than 200 community‑driven projects have been supported, empowering local groups to protect ecosystems, adapt to climate change, and manage land sustainably.

With allocations across biodiversity, climate, and land degradation, GEF Zimbabwe plays a vital role in safeguarding natural resources, strengthening community resilience, and advancing the nation’s environmental stewardship.
